This is a personal project of mine as I love Pete Doherty, despite his public persona!
I love Babyshambles and the Libertines and am so excited to have seen Babyshambles at the Reading Festival in the UK when I was there in 2008. It was something I didn't think I would ever get the chance to do since he NEVER seems to leave Europe (he rarely leaves England to begin with.)
Anyhoo, this is an oil and acrylic on canvas portrait taken from a photo from Pete's 'Books of Albion'. Such a cool book cos you don't often get to see the handwritten ramblings of interesting people like him. He really is a very, very smart guy... with an unfortunate drug habit.
I had intended on the painting being a bit more wild and expressive but I am happy with how it turned out. I even painted a second one exactly the same (actually about half the size) for a good friend of mine who loves him just as much as me.
It is currently hanging in my living room, one of those paintings that feels like it's watching you...
